Lime Kiln State Park, known as the Whale Watch Park, on San Juan Island’s West Side is one of the best spot to see Orcas from land in the world. Whales often swim by twice per day during the Summer months. The handicapped accessible park features a historic light house, interpretive trails, picnic table and a whale watching platform and is open daily from dawn to dusk. You’ll need a Discovery Pass to park there.
This photo was taken by long time islander Ricarda Burnett. Ricarda volunteers for Soundwatch, educating boaters about regulations concerning killer whales. She makes wooden spoons and utensils out of recycled hard wood scraps and has her Woodengoodies stand at the Saturday Farmer’s Market.
